I’m back to kick off the IYA series this week. From here on out the upcoming posts will be more frequent. This week, I let myself get sidetracked and I got into a bit of a mental rut that included netflix binging. I usually hate when these lazy weeks happen to me, and I’m not happy that it did but I got a chance to dig deeper into why I let it continue to be a cycle.

 Lazy Days

One lazy hour can turn into lazy days, weeks, months and in retrospect sometimes a year.  Many January 1st’s I have looked back into the months prior and realized that it was a really lazy year for me.  As easy as it is to press play for that next Netflix episode it is so much harder to think of what’s next when it comes to the future of our lives.

I’m going to tell you why giving into these lazy days is yet exciting and dangerous at the same time. Having laziness has a habit is dangerous, it limits experiences, productivity and opportunity. How much are we willing to miss out on before we realize we could be so much further if we got our attitude, mind and spirit to work together for our benefit.

Personally this week, I didn’t do any work, I wasn’t in the mood and I just didn’t feel like it. I’m way to quick to say that I don’t want to do something than attempting to do it all. Without even realizing it most times when we don’t accomplish what we set out to do, not only are we are letting ourselves down but we are letting down all the people who depend entirely on us, today and in the future. You may not even know them yet, but what’s crazy is that, we all have such an unimaginable wide range of impact on people who will somehow be touched by our contributions!

There’s only one person on earth that benefits from when we take days off of our purpose, he is known as the devil himself! When I was talking to a friend this week, she made an interesting point, we both stated we have been getting great feedback and encouragement for what we’re currently doing but despite the potential influence we know we can have –  that is hinging on whether we decide to keep working, –  we’re still not putting in the necessary work and time to see that vision come to life. She said something to me that i interpreted as,  “our spirit to give up right now  just means we’re supposed to be doing exactly what we’re doing because the devil is getting involved and he only does that when he’s threatened.” I found that so exciting because it is true, from experience whenever I get invested and passionate I somehow get this feeling that I could never accomplish what I’m dreaming, I’m not good enough or capable, and these thoughts are not God ordained so there’s only one person who’s mission is to ensure my defeat. To know that the calling on your life is so great that the devil must intervene himself to see it not come to reality, should give you a bigger push than ever. The negative thoughts that have halted you thus far should only be reminders of why you should keep going, something wants to see you fail and God wants to see you prevail but only you get to choose who you want to prove right.

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of being lazy, I know it’s easy and addicting and I usually mistake my lazy days as resting but it takes work to deserve rest and even then I shouldn’t let my spirit for my purpose die.

This realization of the underlying fear I have behind lazy day reminds me of one of my favourite poems  by Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates
others.

So my question for you is, do you actually believe you are inadequate or are you powerful beyond measure? Because, whatever attitude you choose to
have, will be the one leading you and be most visible in everything you do.
